Reading is the foundation of all learning.
Access to books and supplies at home encourages students to explore and pursue their interests without bounds. Studies have shown that children who grow up in homes with books tend to have higher academic achievement and score better on standardized tests.
Yet, more than 50% of children identify their school library as their main source for books to read. This means their access to reading books is severely diminished when class is not in session.
With the help of generous groups and individuals, this is where A Gift for Teaching is able to step in.
Free reading books are one of the many essential supplies distributed to students during the school year through our Free Teacher Supply Store and Pencil Boy Express – The Mobile Free Store. Since 1998, more than 2.3 million books have been shared to help bridge this gap and ensure more children in the community have the books they need to be ready to read.
Every book collected in our Ready to Read Book Drive will help spark imagination and curiosity for learning beyond the classroom.
Did you know you can continue to help empower teachers and inspire future leaders every month? By becoming a member of The Honor Roll, with automatic recurring $25 monthly gift, three classrooms can continue to have access to essential supplies every school year!
